In November 1968 there was a five day riot surrounding the Democratic National Convention. There were many activist organizations involved. Police used tear gas and batons and the rioters used rocks and bottles against each other. Hundreds on both sides were injured.
Eight people were accused of conspiring to incite a riot. Bobby Seales was tried separately making it the “Chicago 7”. After a five month trial, they were all convicted and sent to prison. All the convictions were overturned in 1972.
