The Galápagos Islands were discovered in 1535 by Tomas Berlinger.
They were formed by volcanic activity.
They are located 600 miles off Equador.
In 1835, Charles Darwin spent 5 weeks there. He noticed that the same species would have different characteristics. These observations led to the development of his “Theory of Natural Selection”.
The Galapagos Tortoise can live up to 1 year without food.
